Benefits of Green Tea

Many people have been calling green tea the new miracle drug, possible of curing cancer and keeping your body immune from diseases. While there is still lots of research to be done on the effects of green tea on human health there have been many small-scale studies done that show a correlation between drinking green tea and lower cholesterol and even cancer rehabilitation. A few of the popular benefits of green tea have been summarized below. With so many people praising the power of green tea it must be worth checking out.

1)      EGCG

EGCG stands for epigallocatechin gallate and it is a catechin polyphenol that has been known to be particularly effective in inhibiting the growth of cancer cells. Studies have shown that EGCG is able to destroy cancer cells while leaving healthy tissue unharmed. The reason why green tea is more powerful in this regard than other teas is that green tea’s processing is different. Instead of fermenting the tea, the leaves are withered and steamed, leaving the EGCG more concentrated.

2)      Weight Loss/Dieting

Studies have shown that green tea can be helpful in lowering the “bad” LDL cholesterol, which is almost always high in sufferers of heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes

The antioxidants in green tea are dilators which means that they open up the blood vessels allowing for more flexibility and making them less vulnerable to clogging. Green tea isn’t a miracle drug, though, and dieters should make strength training, exercise ball workouts and healthy eating their main focus for the most success.

3)      Antioxidants

The antioxidants in green tea, called catechins are like little hunters, looking to find and kill free radicals that are out to wreck havoc on your DNA. Other powerful catechins can be found in grapes and berries, red wine and chocolate. Powerful, busy catechins are key to preventing disease and lowering your chance of heart problems and neurological diseases.
